Announcing: Our first scholarship recipient

On November 27, 2023, Craig presented Jack Cobb, a Guelph Gryphons linebacker, with the Thompson Wealth Advisory Football Scholarship. Jack, who is in his second year at the University of Guelph and pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, is the first-ever recipient of this scholarship.

“What stands out is Jack’s passion and winning attitude on and off the field,” explains Craig. “We can’t wait to see what happens next for this talented young man.”

The student is as excited about the scholarship as he is about his football team. “Playing for the Gryphons so far has been an absolute honour. The coaching I have received over the last two years has been outstanding,” says Jack.

About the scholarship

Established in 2023, the Thompson Wealth Advisory Football Scholarship is awarded each year to a student-athlete on the Guelph University Varsity Football Team with extraordinary athletic, academic, and leadership qualities, with preference given to a player from the region of Hamilton, Ontario.

While studying at Queen’s University, Hamilton’s Craig Thompson played on the Varsity football team, and he describes those years as “among the most rewarding and formative experiences of my life.”

Craig had a personal connection with the Guelph Gryphons coaching staff, which included a former teammate and coach of his: “Both of these individuals had a profound positive impact on my life, and I am confident that their current coaching staff will have a similar influence on the player who is awarded the first Thomson Wealth Advisory Football Scholarship.”

Craig feels honoured to be in a position to help young athletes have a similar experience while pursuing their athletic and academic goals.
